...Telluride
Telluride Main Street
both a winter and a summer destination

Telluride is the first major town on the San Juan Skyway's Highway 145 from Dolores. It's filled with quaint but trendy shops and restaurants; it has at least three waterfalls, two of which can be seen from downtown; it has a wonder river trail that runs the whole length of the town; it has a no-charge gondola ride into Mountain Village (where the major ski lifts are); and it has hiking trails galore.

And that's what's happening in the summer months. I can only imagine how hopping it must be in the winter.

San Miguel River
Silly me. I just realized the only picture I took in Mountain Valley is of this poor weird aspen tree. Guess I don't hold much stock in cement plazas. I'm sure it's much prettier in the winter when it's snow-covered.
Just a couple blocks over from Main Street, the San Miguel River flows the whole length of the town. A dirt-packed walking path parallels it all the way, passing a few interesting featuers along the way.

The Ingram Fall (left) seems to fall into a big ice hole. Bridal Veil Fall (right) is Colorado's longest free-falling waterfall.

There are long, strenous hkes to both Ingram Fall (above) and Bridal Veil Fall f rom Telluride. (I didn't do them.)
Telluride Regional Airport
The Telluride Regional Airport sits high on a mesa, as seen here from the gondola ride to Mountain Valley.
