...Oswego, New York
On Lake Ontario

Oswego, New York was a leg of a three-month summer trip that went from Texas to Minnesota, across the U.S. shore of Lake Erie, to upstate New York, and then over to Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine. From there, I visited New Hampshire and Vermont before heading back home.

So, when I was planning the trip back in April and May, I contacted a dear high school friend who lives in Oswego to let her know I'd be up her way and could we meet for lunch.

She said she'd have a bed ready for me. We chatted most of the afternoon once I arrived, then went to dinner. After dinner she showed me around Oswego, and we just happened to catch the sun going down over the lighthouse on Lake Ontario. What a treat.

As always, I wished I had planned better and spent more time there. It's a sweet little town with lots to see.

My friend was an excellent tour guide.

The Oswego Lighthouse standing today was built in 1934 and sits at the end of a 2000-foot long breakwater where the Oswego River and Lake Ontario merge.
