the wandering chick
...the New York countryside
Glens Falls to Bennington, VT

In my little world of happiness, this is when the adrenaline flows. Give me the backroads, the twists and turns, the quaint little towns and the old broken-down barns. Yep, this is my happy place.

So this day going to New York's Saratoga County was especially fun driving, a route from Lake George to New London, Connecticut. Google says it's a 3 1/2-hr drive. It took me closer to 8, going places I've never been, seeing things I'll never see again. The journey was the destination.

After Bennington, VT, I had to get on a quicker route, so no photos were taken.

These photos are a good representation of how I spent the day. The last leg of the trip, Bennington, Vermont, can be viewed via a link at the bottom of this page.

My main route after leaving the Glens Falls area was Highway 32 headed south. I often took detours omto side roads and eventually made my way over to Highways 22 and 7 into Bennington.

This conglomeration of buildings had certainly seen better days. I couldn't tell if it was still in use, but it appeared abandoned. Every angle was a picture.

This is a huge dairy farm, the name I failed to get. No one was around but a few maintenance guys. I walked around seemingly unnoticed...except by the cows.

It's here near Schuylerville that the Hudson River merges with the Champlain Canal System. Farther down the river is the Champlain Canal Lock System No. 5. A yacht had just passed me here at this spot. I took a few pictures then continued driving south. I met up with the same yacht as it was entering the lock. I stood and watched the whole process, amazed.

This journey continued on into Bennington, Vermont where I saw the First Old Church and the gravesite of the poet Robert Frost and his family. To see those pictures, click here.
