...The Sonoran Preserve

The Apache Wash Trailhead is one of three that comprise the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Sonoran Preserve. Each of the three trailheads has numerous named and well-marked trails that, combined, total some 36 miles of hiking, biking and esquestrian enjoyment.

This page of photos was taken on the Badger Brawl and the Cliff Walk trails that begin at the Apache Wash Trailhead. A group of eight of us walked some 5 or 6 miles this sunny but cool February day.

Not intentionally, we broke into two groups: those with hiking on their minds, and those who had to examine every rock and almost-blooming cactus along the route.

We crossed over a few washes, but the Cliff Walk Trail paralleled the wash, making for interesting views.

Some of us happen to think that dead trees can be more picturesque than those living. We who dilly-dallied along the trail must have spent five minutes walking around, taking pictures and enjoying this sprawling mesquite.
