...Maricopa County
a few more hiking trails

A group of us snowbird women are quickly learning of the abundance of hiking trails in the surrounding area of Lake Pleasant, so we're taking it upon ourselves to hit the trails with our walking sticks and lunches and cover as much ground as we can in the next few months.

With the completion of the Maricopa County trail system, we'll hopefully soon be reaching out to the other regional parks in the county as well, but for now we're exploring our own backyard and enjoying every minute of the great outdoors.

On this page are photos of the various trails we've taken. Check back often as new photos will be added at the completion of a hike.

morgan city wash trail
This wonderful trail takes off from the Beardsley Trail and is called the Morgan City Wash. It proved to be a favorite, very different from any that we've taken previously, as it meanders through a dense desert forest, shaded by a canopy of cottonwood, mesquite and willow trees. It's no wonder it's considered a prime birding spot. We'll be doing it again, I'm sure. The next several pictures were taken along this trail, located south of Lake Pleasant Regional Park and accessed off Highway 74 (Carefree Highway) between the Pleasant Harbor RV Resort turnoff and the turnoff to the Lake Pleasant Regional Park.

The Wild Burro Trail is an easy 3-mile hike inside Lake Pleasant Regional Park. It offers a couple of decent views of the lake, despite the low water level. One of the main roads in the park, N. Park Road, is never far away. Water and sun protection are recommended on this hike in warmer weather, as there is little shade along the trail. Starting the trail on the south end and hiking north ends at an area of picnic tables that offers a stunning overview of Lake Pleasant. The next several pictures were taken along this trail.

There are several pages of photos on this web site of the numerous hiking trails that not only surround Lake Pleasant, but also include Maricopa County's various regional parks, all with wonderful hiking and biking trails. The trails I've hiked, either alone or with friends, can be reached from links on the Arizona home page. The two key links on that page are Maricopa County Regional Parks and Pleasant Harbor. Those two links have sub-links to the individual trails. Here is a link to the Arizona home page.

We gals who did the Morgan City Wash liked it so much we went back and did it again a few days later.
